This section will help you discover the answer to the following questions:
First of all, choose a summer and a winter activity that you can participate in after school or on the weekend. It could be an activity that you could do on your own or with a group of friends or your family.
Once you have your activities, you may want to find out which recreation facilities are near you and what activities are offered there. So, figure out the quadrant of the city you live in. For example, Sally chose swimming and she lives in Canyon Meadows which is in the SW quadrant of Calgary. She searched Canyon Meadows pools and found the online Canyon Meadow Aquatic and Fitness swimming pool facility guide.
There are many ways to find out this information... Here is one suggestion:

Even more information about these facilities and the activities available can be found at The City of Calgary Recreation Facilities site.

Create an “INFOMERCIAL” (video advertisement) to share with others advertizing what can be done at Calgary recreation facilities. Your job is to promote a new activity, game or sport – encourage others to participate!

Can you motivate your class to design and create a wall chart or an electronic class blog where everyone writes down activities, games and sports they do in the evenings, on weekends and on holidays. Leave room so that students (and teachers) can comment about their activities. Encourage a student each week to make a short presentation about an activity he or she did.
How could you take this information and display your findings about the most frequently used facilities, new activities discovered, and the positive health benefits that were achieved in your class?
Did you know that Health Canada recommends that you should be getting at least 90 minutes of quality physical activity every day? The Provincial Board of Education only mandates that you get 30 minutes a day at school. How are you getting the other 60 minutes?
